2013 Hugo Award Nominations

It’s getting closer and closer to March 10th, which means it’s almost time to submit nominations for the 2013 Hugo Awards!

Below are my current thoughts. Please let me know if you think anything I have in my draft nomination isn’t correct – I’m seeing so many people nominate works that aren’t eligible, that I just know I must be doing it also.

One note: I know there’s much controversy over Doctor Who nominations for short form best dramatic presentation, and wonder whether I should be nominating Season 7 in Long Form, like Game of Thrones was slanted at least year?

Okay I lied, two notes: How are we supposed to find out the editor of books we’ve noted have excellent editing?

About thiefofcamorr

Katharine likes to think she’s a Sky Pirate and that takes up most of her time. When she isn’t treasure hunting, she’s writing or playing video games and wishing Doctor Who and Farscape were real. She started writing at age 12 and has written almost every day on paper and most certainly in her mind otherwise – or at least, she used to, and is hoping to get back into that mindset asap. She tends to like the idea of fantasy, but her ideas themselves always seem to gravitate towards science fiction. Katharine is a judge in the Aurealis Awards, and would really like a pet chocobo.

  1. I’m excited to see so many familiar things here, especially nominations for Calico Reaction, The Book Smugglers, and Galactic Suburbia. 😀 The Lady Astronaut of Mars was a last minute read for me, but I loved it. An excellent story.

I think John Scalzi has recused himself from future Fan Writer nominations, but now worry that I have made that up because I can’t find any reference to it.

I’ve stumbled into the editor question myself. I still haven’t found a good answer.

    • I love Galactic Suburbia 😀 Almost listened to every episode, I think I have 17 left overall. Lady Astronaut was also a last minute read for me, seeing it on other lists brought it to my attention that it existed!
Ahh, I’d believe it if John Scalzi has – I’ll put him in anyway as I don’t have anyone else on my radar and if it’s not counted, then not much’ll change on my ballet. Thanks for letting me know and I’ll keep an eye out to learn for next year 😀

I’m going to keep searching/asking around until I figure out the editors thing – editors need their love 🙂

ETA: It seems easiest to ask the author’s on their blogs/twitter – knew I should have started working on my noms list earlier!
